Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 12, 2026

WhyUsersLeave is a UX analytics tool for website owners. This policy covers two groups: site owners who create accounts, and visitors of sites that run our tracking script. We built this to be the analytics tool we’d want on our own sites — no creepy stuff.

For site owners (accounts)

When you create an account we store your email address (used for magic-link sign-in and product emails you can unsubscribe from), the sites you register, and billing state if you upgrade (processed by Stripe — we never see your card number).

What the tracker collects on visitor sessions

The WhyUsersLeave script records behavioral events: page views, clicks, scroll depth, text selections, keyboard shortcuts (like Ctrl+F — we record the shortcut, not what was typed), form field focus and abandonment (field names, never values), JavaScript errors, and navigation timing.

Each visitor gets a random anonymous ID stored in their browser’s localStorage (_wul_visitor). This is how we tell a returning visitor from a new one. We do not use cookies, do not fingerprint devices, and do not track anyone across different websites.

What we never collect

We never record what visitors type into form fields — no passwords, no emails, no message contents, no payment details. We do not capture screenshots, screen recordings, or webcam/microphone data. IP addresses are used only transiently for rate-limiting and are not stored with session data.

How the data is used

Session data is aggregated into UX metrics (bounce rate, scroll depth, dead clicks) and analyzed by AI models to generate fix recommendations for the site owner. Individual visitor data is never sold, never shared with third parties for advertising, and never used to train models for other customers.

Data retention and deletion

Site owners can delete a site and all its session data at any time from the dashboard or by emailing us. Visitors can clear their anonymous ID at any time by clearing their browser’s site data. If you are a visitor and want your session data removed from a site using WhyUsersLeave, contact us and we’ll handle it with the site owner.

Subprocessors

We use Supabase (database), Vercel (hosting), Anthropic (AI analysis), Stripe (payments), and Resend (email). Each processes data only as needed to run the service.
